What’s Beyond Social Media: Discovering Human Business in an Era of Full Disclosure

human-relationsSocial Media never got anyone to buy anything.

…And it never got anyone to fall in love with a brand.

Or trash a celebrity.

Or start an Online business.

Social media does none of these things, but social humans do.

Nowhere to Hide: The Rise of Interconnectedness

Twitter, Facebook, and the multitude of social media sites are simply the tools for achieving what we want as humans, and that is to engage one another in ways that result in meaningful relationships. Never forget that the sites are only the tools. Moreover, think about why we’re doing all this tweeting and blogging in the first place.

Now that there’s so few places to hide (thanks Internet!), people grasp that they can make an impact by sharing every part of themselves, their relationships, and their lives with a global community of followers and fans. The outcome is that businesses need to change, because their customers are changing.

Static websites and canned messages don’t work anymore because they don’t speak to people as they wish to be spoken to: like individuals. Just look at what Comcast is doing with their Twitter presence. The company realized there are lots of unhappy customers, and some genuinely pleased ones out there too. So instead of burying their heads in the sand, they come right out and embrace the positive and negative that are associated with directly engaging their community.

Most every business and individual today must begin investing in their own Online reputations and profiles by building communities of their own. These communities are really armies of followers who watch your back, just as you watch theirs.

There will be a downloadable presentation discussing ways to start your human business strategy shortly.
